Hops are here!

True Grist ran it’s 2nd annual hop bulk buy with Chilliwack hops this Spring. In total, 291 lbs of hops across 47 varieties were ordered by 44 different Full Members, all of which arrived last week at this year’s sorting and distributing centre – Short Finger Brewing Company in KW. This year’s buy was a marked growth from last year’s:

  • 63% increase in total order size (178# last year vs. 291# this year)
  • 18% increase in varieties ordered order of (40 varieties last year vs. 47 this year)
  • 47% increase in number of participating members (30 members participating last year vs 44 this year)

Amazing. By the hops, it’s clear homebrewing as a hobby continues to grow in the region.

Thanks to our Group Buys Director Josh Van Opstal for organizing, the team at Short Finger Brewing Company for hosting the order sorting, order storage in their walk-in cooler, and order distribution, as well as the volunteers that helped Josh sort orders – Alex Palmer and Mike Ralph. If you haven’t already picked up your order from SFBC or made other arrangements, please do so promptly! Happy brewing!

Our Chilliwack Hops order fit nicely on a single skid, which was received for us by Short Finger Brewing Company. Chilliwack packaged our hops in N₂ flushed mylar in 1# increments for us.
Mike Ralph confirming the entire hop order is accounted for. It was.
Keeping things simple, tape was used to bundle hop orders together.
Bundles of hops, packed back into the original boxes. These boxes were then moved to the SFBC walk-in cooler while they wait for pick up.
