Our meeting this month was hosted by Phil Woodhouse, co-owner of Stonehammer brewing in Guelph. We had a great turnout with many new members participating in their first meeting. The meeting started off with a few announcements including:
- A summary for the group’s donation drive for Chris – together we raised $1,321.16!
- The new ability to pay for your 2018 membership on the website
- A potential future honey bulk buy
Unfortunately, due to bad weather, Scott Hayhoe of Hayhoe Hops was unable to travel to attend this meeting. Hops from our bulk buy will now be delivered to the January meeting instead.
Phil gave us a tour of the Stonehammer brew house, including their direct fired copper kettle, and horizontal aging tanks. He answered member’s questions about ingredients, and the challenges of running a full scale brewery.

Afterwards, we headed back to the tasting room to share homebrew samples including a large array of Belgian dark strong ales, perfect beers for December. Andrew, Greg and Jonah all brought delicious bread to snack on during the sampling.

Next month the meeting will be hosted by Kevin at Block 3 Brewing in St. Jacobs, where he will undoubtably drop some sour beer knowledge on the group.
Happy Holidays from the True Grist Executive. See you in 2018!
