This month, we travelled back to Rhythm and Brews brewing co. They are hard at work getting the brewery ready to open. Andrew gave us a run-down on his crazy three brews per day brewing schedule. Their space is looking awesome!

Andrew speaking about the brewery. The bar is looking really good!

We had announcements which included:

  • Big brew day – May 5 is fast approaching! We will be brewing at Shortfinger Brewing on a bunch of different systems. This is a fun way to collaborate with other members, as well as expand the hobby.
  • Escarpment Labs Tour – On May 9 we will be getting a tour of escarpment labs. There will also be a yeast order from Escarpment labs. If you are a Full Member would like to go on the tour, please RSVP as space is limited.
  • The hops bulk buy is open. Please place your order here. The deadline for the hop buy is April 27.
  • Kegs from the bulk buy are available to be picked up in Guelph on Saturday, April 14 and Sunday, April 15. If you purchased a keg, check your email for more information!
Jamie dropping some BJCP knowledge on the group.

This month, we decided to try something new. Following the announcements, club competitions director Jamie gave a presentation on how BJCP certification works, and the first steps for our members to take if they are interested in becoming a BJCP certified judge. You can see the materials from that presentation here. We will be continuing these educational presentations into the future. If you have an idea for a topic, or would like to present something, please let our club director of education Chris know.

After the talk, we ran our troubleshooting corner in parallel with the social hour. The turnout to this meeting was great! The place was buzzing a bit during the social hour. It was nice to see and meet some of the new members who have recently joined the club.

A reminder that due to Big Brew Day and the Escarpment Labs tour, we will not be having a meeting in May 2018. Stay tuned to find out where we end up in June!
